Small town boys make big news

Students from small towns in Gujarat outshone their counterparts from cities in the Integrated Professional Competence Course (IPCC) and Professional Competence Course (PCC) — part of Chartered Accountant (CA) — results announced on Saturday. Surendranagar's Akshat Sanghvi, ranked 6th in India, in the exam, which was conducted in November 2011.
According to an office-bearer of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), Ahmedabad chapter, the IPCC results this year for both the groups is 17.18% while group I results is 35% and group II, 29.19%. PCC result for both the groups is 16.34%. The result in Group 1 is 35.65%. In Group II, it is 32.73%.
Other small town boys in the merit list include Nikhilkumar Vekaria from Una (rank 32, IPCC); Ashwin Gajjar from Thara (18, PCC) and Nitin Ramani from Junagadh (ranked 36). While Akshat's father is a doctor, Ashwin and Nitin's fathers are small time farmers. They are the first ones of their family who have opted not to take up the ancestral occupation and, instead, pursue their dream of becoming chartered accountants. All those who have cleared these exams will now appear for the CA final.
